How to do Sukhaasan Di Sewa  WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh 'Sukhasan' means "relaxed pose" implying a posture or state of rest, peace and tranquillity. At night after Sodar Rehraas, Guru Ji's Saroop (Volume) is put to rest (i.e. ceremoniously closed and placed) in a special room or place, but before being moved, Guru Ji is put into Sukhasan. In essence, it is the reverse of the Prakash ceremony. Sukhasan takes place after the sun goes down, or at any time before Guru Ji's Saroop is moved, such as at the completion of a Gurdwara ceremony when Guru Ji is to be moved. The following is a full Sukhasan ceremony: 1. The sewadar (volunteer) serving as the Granthi takes a Hukamnama. 2. The Granthi then recites 'Sohila' while he or she closes Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, removing the side rumaalas. (If one does not know Sohila Sahib by heart, someone else can read it from the Nitnem Gutka). If Sukhasan is performed during the day, 'Benti Chaupaee' is traditionally recited. Other Gurbani compositions may also be recited in addtion to these two traditional recitation. 3. Guru Ji's Saroop is placed in the centre of the Manjee Sahib (raised platform/cot) and is covered with one or both side rumalas. The Granthi covers his or her head with a clean towel or (cotton) cloth and then places Guru Ji's Saroop on their head. 4. The rectangular shaped folded white cotton rumalas, which are on the Manjee Sahib are then unfolded upon the Palkee in preparation for wrapping Guru Ji's Saroop. Unfolding the rumalas, which had been folded into a rectangular shape for the Parkash, are now unfolded to make the diamond shape. (Cotton is used because it is not slippery, and holds well as a wrap.) 5. Guru Ji is lowered onto the rumalas on the Palki Sahib. 6. Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is then neatly wrapped, one rumala at a time. One corner at a time, the rumala is folded inwards. Having done this, the side side rumalas (palkeean) are placed on top of Guru Ji's saroop and then the large rumala sahib is placed over. 7. Ardaas is recited. This may be a short, abbreviated Ardas. ੴ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਤਹਿ ॥
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ ਵਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ 10 ॥ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਮ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਈਂ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ ਫਿਰ ਅੰਗਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਅਮਰਦਾਸੁ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੈ ਹੋਈਂ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ ਅਰਜਨ ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੋ ਸਿਮਰੌ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਰਾਇ ॥ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨ ਧਿਆਇਐ ਜਿਸ ਡਿਠੈ ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਿਐ ਘਰ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਵੈ ਧਾਇ ॥ ਸਭ ਥਾਂਈ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ ਦਸਵਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ! ਸਭ ਥਾਂਈ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ ਦਸਾਂ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਬੋਲੋ ਜੀ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ!
ਹੇ ਨਿਮਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਣ , ਨਿਤਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਤਾਣ , ਨਿਓਟਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਓਟ , ਸੱਚੇ ਪਿਤਾ , ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ! ਗੁਰੂ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ , ਧੰਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ , ਆਪ ਦੇ ਹਜ਼ੂਰ ਸੁਖਆਸਨ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਜੀ । ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੁਨ ਤਕ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਨਿਹਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈਂ ਜੀ । ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਸੁਖਆਸਨ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈਂ , ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਆਸਨ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਹੋਵੋ ਜੀ ।
ਅੱਖਰ ਵਾਧਾ ਘਾਟਾ ਭੁੱਲ ਚੁੱਕ ਮਾਫ ਕਰਨੀ । ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸ ਕਰਨੇ ।
ਸੇਈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੇਲ , ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਚਿਤ ਆਵੇ । ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ , ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ।
ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਾ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ , ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹਿ ।
ਬੋਲੇ ਸੋ ਨਿਹਾਲ , ਸਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ!

Pritham Bhaguatee simar kai, Gur Naanak le-ee dhiaé.

Arjan Hargobind no, simrau Sree Har Raé.
Sree Harkishan dhiaeeai, jis dithai sabh dukh jaé.
Teg Bahadur simriai, ghar nau nidh aavai dhaé. Sabh thaeen hoé sahaé.
Dasvan Patshah, Sree Guroo Gobind Singh Sahib Jee. Sabh thaeen hoé sahaé.
Dasan Pat-shaheean dee jot, Sree Guru Granth Saahib Jee dé
path deedar da dhian dhar ké,
bolo jee Waheguru!
Hé nimanian de Maan, nitanian dé Tan, niohtian di Oht, Saché Pita Waheguru! Guroo Gareeb Nivaj, Dhan Sree Guroo Granth Sahib Jee, aap dé hazoor sukhasan dee ardas hai jee. Aap jee ne amrit-velé to lai ké hun tak sadh sangat noo darshan dé ké nihal keeta hai jee. Aap Jee da Sukhasan Asthan tiyar hai, kirpa kar ké Sukhasan asthan té birajman hovo jee.
Akhar vadha ghataabhul chuk maf karnee.
Sey piaré mel, jinhan milia tera naam chit aavé. Nanak Naam chardikala, teré bhaané sarbat da bhala.

Bolé so nihal, Sat Sree Akal! 8. The Granthi places Guru Ji's Saroop on his or her head, stands and walks to the location where Guru Ji will spend the night. Ideally, another Sikh precedes Guru Ji with sword drawn, and another Sikh follows, waving the Chaur Sahib over Guru Ji. Everyone sings any Gurbani or mantra, such as Satnam Waheguru, or Dhan Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Traditionally the Sadh Sangat joins together and sing: ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ Jithai jaé behai mera satguroo
ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ So than suhava ram rajé
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਂੀ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਭਾਲਿਆ ਲੈ ਧੂਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਵਾ ॥ Gursikhee so than bhalia
ਲੈ ਧੂਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਵਾ ॥ Lai dhoor mukh lava
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਕੀ ਘਾਲ ਥਾਇ ਪਈ Gursikha kee ghal thaé paee
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਾ ॥ Jin har nam dhiava
ਜਿਨ੍ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਜਿਆ Jin Nanak satgur poojia
ਤਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਵਾ ॥ 2 ॥ Tin har pooj karava. |
Translation: - "Wherever my True Guru goes and sits, that place is beautiful, O Lord King. The Guru's Sikhs seek out that place; they take the dust and apply it to their faces. The works of the Guru's Sikhs, Who meditate on Waheguru's Name, are approved. Those who worship the True Guru, O Nanak, Waheguru causes them to be worshipped in turn. ||2||" (Ang 450, SGGS) 9. A short Ardas may be recited at the Guru's resting place (however this is usually done if it is different location i.e. Guru Ji's saroop has come from someone's house back to the Gurdwara Sahib). "Bolé so Nihal . . . Sat Siree Akal!" is proclaimed, so that all nearby may know that the Guru is now safely at rest. 10.
