Nit-Nem (Set of Hymns for Daily/Routine Recitation)
WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh

** Page is being updated ****
'Nit' means always and 'Nem' means 'commitment' or 'outh'. Nitnem are Bani's (meaning a set of hymns/scriptures) from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee that are generally read everyday especially by Sikhs who have been initiated (baptised).

Daily reciting of a set of Bani's by Sikhs during Guru Jees time has been noted in Bhai Gurdas Jee's Vaaran Var 6 pauri 3.

  • Japji Sahib in morning,
  • Sodar/Sopurkh (Rehraas) in evening
  • and Sohila Sahib before sleeping.
These four Banis starting from ang(page) 1 to 13 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee are not put in Raags, but before the Raags start, just before Sri Raag (first raag).

Nit-Nem, according to the current **Rehat Maryada published by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), comprises of five sets of banis.
The first three are JapJi (also spelled as Jappu Ji) Sahib, Rehras and Kirtan Sohela, all of which are from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. Others are Jaap(u) Sahib, Savayae (both not from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee but from apocryphal sources).

Sukhmani Sahib (ang 262 to ang 296 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee) is often read by some as part of their daily routine.
